Road trip…..12 inches of snow along the way.

19 Feb

Visiting Dallas Texas was quite an experience I would say… Traveling up with two friends, Annette and Christy to the CFNI Worship Conference was a great learning experience for me. Never having driven in falling snow before taught me a great lesson in trust.  Before leaving, my hubby told me that it would be fine as long as the temperature stayed above 32 degrees as the bridges would not ice over. Needless to say I kept looking at the temp gauge and saying , “It is only 34 degrees, we are fine!” Took a picture with my IPhone to prove it…. Ignorance is bliss at times!!!  I told the ladies that the drive was in their hands with me just doing what they told me to do.  Do we need to turn around (not a good idea as all the access roads were closed), go slower or faster? I was instructed that it would be a good idea to get behind the big truck in front of me, which was a beer truck,  follow in the ruts it made and then if I hit ice to not brake drastically but go with the slide and gain control by braking lightly – easier said than done as I watched a few cars and pick-ups slide into the ditches. After arriving safely in Dallas after 12 inches of snow and 6 hours of driving, this is what I came up with as I lay in bed thinking about the journey I had justtaken. I related the truck to God, (you never know what form God might be or look like..) this being the one to keep my eyes on and follow. Annette was like Jesus, instructing, directing and told me to keep going, ‘slow and steady’, ‘slow and steady’. Then there was Christy, like the Holy Spirit, cautioning me to slow down, speed up and kept me from doing any movement or action to harm us. I could have never made the trip without any of them and would not have wanted to as it would have definitely ended up in trouble as I really did not know how to handle the situation. Just like our lives, we really need God to be the One we follow, the strong anchor and leader in our lives.  Jesus to direct and encourage us and the Holy Spirit to caution us – This could really be a sermon for me as there was so much in this journey that taught we how God is so sovereign and mighty in our lives. Apart from all the excitement of driving in and around Dallas after 12 inches of snow, the conference was amazing! It is always a blessing to attend CFNI, be in the presence of the Lord and learn from such great worshipers and teachers. We  threw some snowballs, ate good food and arrived back in Austin alive and well in all aspects ~ God is good!

Moving along…

It is almost to late to wish you a happy new year but never the less, I trust that this year will be full of blessing and rejoicing for you. The days are going by fast and I am trying really hard to not miss all the blessings around about me, as time waits for no man! The new year has already brought some exciting events our way as we have celebrated together in our home.  Kristen embraced her 23rd birthday on February 3rd and is still celebrating as we plan an outing to Cirque Du Soleil “Alegria” together.  Sarah was accepted into Concordia University to do her BSN (nursing degree) and was granted a partial scholarship. We are very proud of her.  As far as moving into a new home, that has been put on hold as we just reached a point of no peace in the decision and decided to followed the counsel that we so often give, follow peace….. We were disappointed but just both believe that God has something different and better for us in the whole situation.  So we wait and see what the hand of God will do and see what He has planned with our house situation.
